Nursery Project #3: DIY Baby Armoire

posted in: Family | 11

I’m so excited to show this project off!! Creating this has been on my mind almost since we found out we were having a girl back in January! I needed a cute way to show off all the adorable outfits and dresses we would be receiving!!

DIY Baby Armoire

I saw this idea to redo a bookcase on Pinterest and immediately added it to my Pinterest Nursery board. If you have been reading my bump updates you know we’ve been searching to buy a used bookcase for some time, but I just couldn’t wait any longer and my parents (they are awesome!!) decided they would like to help us get this big item. Off to Target we went to get a bookcase!

So excited to get a bookcase!!
So excited to get a bookcase!!

My husband put it together that night, even though it kept him up late since he had work to do after. He is such a servant!! He just knew how excited I was to get started hanging clothes!

It was not too hard to put together (he said), and he purposefully left out adjustable shelves…
Here it is, finished, that night:

We also left the backing off the shelf. I don’t mind the gray of the wall showing through. Just wait until you see it with clothes!! I added tension rods so that I could hang clothes. And these nifty “size it” closet organizers I got at my first shower!

Aren’t these hangers so elegant? I got them from the HomeGoods store! I was able to spend 30 minutes on Monday hanging up clothes (by physical size, not the number on the tag) and realized I would have to go out and buy more hangers!

Yesterday, I bought more hangers, spend awhile organizing all the clothes and trying to fit it all in. I think Baby Girl is going to have enough clothes. We particularly have the most 3-6 month range.

And more 6 months size clothes and 9 month:

Of course, I have no idea how long Baby Girl will be in each size, etc. But at least I have an organized system and I can easily see what I have!! Love this DIY Baby Armoire!!

Next project: either the curtains or organizing the changing table area…

  5. I love this idea, I’m curious since you left the back off can you anchor this to the wall? If not, how sturdy is it for when baby starts crawling and walking. I’m only asking because I love the idea for my baby too 🙂

    • That’s a great questions! We did get a more sturdy bookcase, but I think you still would be able to anchor it to the wall (because you don’t want to anchor off the flimsy backing anyway, you would be anchoring it to the wall using the sides of the bookcase, right?).
