Day 10: Nursery Expedit

So happy to be done with the nursery!! It is my favorite room in the house – I love all the colors and when it is picked up, it is so peaceful!! So, let’s show you the progress I made today. Here is the before of the expedit and all of Ain’s toys:

Since the closet was already done, I was just focusing on everything in the Expedit. I got rid of the random baskets on top. I will LOVE to re-purpose them somewhere else in the house! Since I had the space, I wanted to make it pretty as well as functional. Here is how it turned out:

I’m thankful I had places to put everything, since I recently bought the Drona boxes from IKEA. I just had to decide how to categorize everything. In the end, Ain doesn’t really have enough toys to categorize it by cars, blocks, etc. For the picture below, the top left basket has a few toys Ain got for his birthday that we haven’t given him yet to play with (we’ll be getting them out for the first time today!), and then puzzles next to that. Second row I wanted to make a display of his shape sorter on top of books and the Drona box has toys I’m taking out of the circulation downstairs. Third row: water toys and a basket of books. Fourth row: the small bin on the left is empty for now and the Drona box has stuffed animals. It’s nice to have empty space – with a new baby coming I’m sure we’ll fill it!!

In the picture below, the top Drona boxes have newborn items (since I will be having a baby in March I don’t want to put them away in the basement) and the basket is full of blankets and burp clothes. Third row I have a bunch of dvds (no other home for them right now) and mega blocks. Last row I have a tool set and empty bins behind it and then an empty basket next to that.

So, you see – organized, but with a lot of hidden empty space. It looks, pretty, doesn’t it?

I also finished tidying up the rest of the room so I can get some good pictures. Here is the little shelf beside the Expedit which holds our cloth wipes, newborn shadow box, board books, extra disposable diapers, and a few other toys inside:

So, here’s a look at the room as a whole:

And slightly to the right:

And because I like before and afters, here it is before Ain was born, and now!

Looks awesome! I love a good clean out in my kids’ rooms. And, I am totally with you, my daughter’s nursery is the most peaceful room in the house!

Isn’t it funny how tiny little babies bring along so much clutter? I have found that hiding/stashing away some toys not only controls the mess, but also keeps baby focused on a few things other than being overwhelemed by so many toy options. Tranquility for all! 🙂
