Day 16: How to clean your window tracks

Finally we have a day warm enough to clean our windows!! This whole week looks pretty warm, so I’m probably going to tackle a little bit at a time, when I have time. Don’t forget – you can check out my 31 Days to Building a Cleaning Routine pin board for cleaning ideas and homemade recipes.

When I pinned today’s pin, I got really excited about finding this easy and green way to clean out window tracks!!

When I followed the link on the pin, I was lead to Ask Anna – a blog that has a WEALTH of information on cleaning!

Today I’ll be showing you my progress in cleaning out my window tracks. It took some time, but I was amazed at how well it worked!

All you need is:

– glass of vinegar

– cotton swaps

– cloth

– paper towels

The Before:

dirty window

Step 1: Dip your cloth in vinegar and wipe out the grime.

Since my window was really dirty, I used a cloth to clean most of the track.

Step 2: Use Q-tips for hard to reach spots.

Dip a Q-tip in the vinegar, then attack all the hard to reach places. I was surprised by how well the texture of the Q-tips really allow for it to pick up all the dirt! You will go through a LOT of Q-tips if your window tracks are as bad as mine!!

Step 3: Finish with a couple of paper towels.

Dip a couple of paper towels in the vinegar and just make sure all the dirt is off the window tracks and the window sill. Step back and enjoy! No need to rinse – vinegar will dry without streaks!

It’s that easy!!

The tracks look like new! Another tip is to vacuum the tracks prior to wetting them. It reduces the amount of sludge you have to wipe up.
